My pathetic haiku poems --
Yellow banana
Tastes so sweet, so ripe, so nice
You want to have one?
Lights twinkle, dangle
Memories hang proud and glad
Baker's Christmas tree
Incandescent bulb
Shaded by fabric and lace
My lamp for reading
See, this is why Aunt with Books and Redheaded Man always make up the fun scavenger hunt clues at Christmas time! They laugh at my lack of creativity and don't like for me to participate. If you are laughing at my lack of creativity, please stop that right now!
Bonnie is the poet/writer in the family. Did you know that she once won a haiku contest at the Shell Westhollow Research Center where her dad works? Her awesome (ahem!) prizes included a chemistry T-shirt!

Eep...you didn't have to mention the last part.
I quite enjoyed those. :D Good job.
Here's another one (I'm on a roll now)
The pirate "Trash Can"
Some rampaging pachyderms
Aunt-with-books story
Yo are a professional.
Me on la other hand, I like to stick with long poetry...Nothing Japanese...
BTW It's me Render
She Won a prize for Haiku huh?
Can she post 'em?
It was several years ago and I don't think we saved it. She had to illustrate it also, and the topic of the contest was Earth Day Chemistry or some such.
Bonnie has a whole notebook full of poetry she has written, and much of it DARK. I don't know if she has any recent poetry to share (you can ask her); but she was really into writing poetry about 2 or 3 yrs ago.
Bonnie can hear you, you know...
Yes, I know. At least I'm not talking about you behind your back, but right in front of you!
Bonnie - Aren't you glad you talked groovymama into writing this blog?
Groovymama - The only reason RedheadedMan and I write the clues is because we always seem to wind up writing the clues at the last minute, LATE at night, your favorite time! Yes, Bonnie, your scavenger clues are carefully crafted in the wee hours of the morning, far in advance. (At least five hours in advance, sometimes.)
*Feels out-of-la-loop.*
*head spinning*
Ok then...
Render, to get you "in the loop," here's what sometimes happens in our family at Christmas.
If we have a present too large to wrap (such as a gymnastics mat), or an extra special present (such as a laptop), the adults will make a scavenger hunt for Bonnie and Kendall so that they have to "work" to get the present. They have to follow various clues around the house until they find the present(s). Once we even did the "Amazing Race" where they had to do some challenges to get the clues (example, Bonnie had to choose "multiply or divide" and work a page of MATH to get one of the clues -- isn't that hysterical?). Once Kendall had to search through all of our DVDs until she found a clue inside one of them.
It's really fun and we all enjoy this family tradition of a Christmas morning scavenger hunt.
*Stands in an inimitable awe*
Dat neato....You wouldn't scold me for steelin'yer tradition would you?
No scolding will be forthcoming -- go ahead and steal away! Use your creativity and have fun with it!
Go forth and be creative! But remember, it's all fun and games up until the early morning sibling argument over scansion and iambic pentameter.
Wondering I sit,
Christmas lights at Baker house.
Tree up already?
