Vacation 2009

There's no place like home . . . there's no place like home!

However, we did have fun on our vacation this year. We visited friends in Powder Springs, GA and Augusta, GA. Then we had a brief visit to Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in SC. Several days in Williamsburg were educational and fun (colonial Williamsburg plus Busch Gardens)! Then we headed to Washington, DC where we saw all of the usual sights -- the Capitol, the monuments (we took an evening tour where the lighting was extraordinary), National Cathedral, and of course the museums. Mount Vernon was gorgeous, and it was great to see the chair that George Washington used while in office and the key from the Bastille that was given to him by Lafayette.

I think our favorite museum was the Newseum; it is dedicated to newspapers, photos, tv, and internet news. The 9/11 exhibit was very moving, and the Pulitzer prize winning photos were amazing! The photo exhibit included info about many of the photo such as how the photographer got the picture, what was actually happening, etc. There was also a section of the Berlin Wall, an archive room with copies of newspapers that go back more than 100 yrs., a section dedicated to free speech, and a section dedicated to newsmen and women who have died in the line of duty. We spent 5 hrs there and really enjoyed it!

Going to West Virginia fulfilled our quest to visit all 50 states -- high five!!

Hershey, PA was deliciously fun. The chocolate factory was good, and Scott and the kids enjoyed the amusement park. Our bed and breakfast in the area was a fabulous small farm that was run by a Christian family.

We finished our trip by visiting friends in Nashville, TN and seeing what is new at Vanderbilt. We also nabbed some Krispy Kreme doughnuts there!

All in all, the vacation was great and we are thankful to the Lord for his blessings on our trip -- for good friends, safety, and for our country and the freedoms we enjoy in it.
